Stone Fort Museum

A rock-solid supporter of preservation and history, the Stone Fort Museum tells the stories that built Nacogdoches. Downtown Nac grew up around the house built by Antonio Gil Y'Barbo in circa 1788, and for over 100 years, owners and tenants used the building on el Camino Real de los Tejas as a grocery store, law office, courthouse, cobbler shop, jail, saloon and fortification. Torn down in 1902, Y'Barbo's stone house found new life as the Stone Fort Museum on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University. A Texas Centennial landmark, the museum celebrates early East Texas history and explores the natural and cultural history of the region.
